RUNWAY INTRODUCTION VIDEO {IP}

For the last few years, the NCSU College of Design has been experimenting with how best to integrate digital storytelling into the annual "Art To Wear" fashion show.  For an 8 week-long multimedia studio project, my classmates and I were each paired with a designer whose work would be featured in the show. We were to create a short video that would introduce our designer's line while also adhering to the show's overarching theme: "Accelerated Evolution."   Our main goal was to create a story that built anticipation for our designer's runway entrance and served as a reflection of the designer's vision for the line.

 

My idea was to craft a story that created intrigue and set up an open-ended resolution that the runway models could finish or answer for us.  Since we only had a minute or two to tell this story, I wanted to give it sort of genre feel--a very broad and atmospheric piece that's focus would be on the transition from your stereotypical cold and hyper-tech dystopia to nature and warmth.  But in order to play with viewers expectations, I decided to make this "utopian" field of green pasture take on an antagonists roll.  This southern siren will slowly infiltrate her way into your devices and before you know it, you'll be in Dixieland.
