As a young girl, I first found advertising and what I then though to be third-wave feminism as I watched the 1990's classic chick-flick, "What Women Want". I saw Mel Gibson's character deliver his partner's (played by Helen Hunt) flawless campaign pitch for Nike that included an emotionally gripping video about the cathartic experience running can be for working women. Okay, so I probably didn't know what catharsis was, but I knew that this fake commercial inspired me, and within under a minute. And I thought that was pretty cool.
Fast forward 10+ years, and I've graduated from a competitive design program and have an extensive skill set in visual storytelling (I also have better tastes in movies). But there's still a part of 7 year old me that dreams of pitching to Nike and sticking it to Mel Gibson (the latter might be 25 year old me talking.) With a background in design and motion graphics, I have plenty of experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc. But I've always been more drawn to the foundational stages of creative projects and enjoy the research, ideation, and writing part probably more than the visual execution. Eventually, I'd like to go back to school for some type of digital marketing degree. But right now, I'm just focused on gaining hands-on experience in primarily writing for advertising while using my multimedia experience to create dynamic work that shows rather than tells.
